Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, met with Canada’s Ambassador to Indonesia and Timor-Leste, Jess Dutton, on Wednesday, November 6, 2024 discussing measures to accelerate the Indonesia-Canada Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (ICA-CEPA).

This agreement aims to enhance economic collaboration between the two nations.

“We will coordinate closely to finalize ICA-CEPA as soon as possible,” Airlangga said, as quoted by Antara, on Wednesday, November 6, 2024.

The ICA-CEPA agreement is currently in its 10th negotiation round, being held in Bandung, West Java, with both sides seeking common ground on remaining issues.

In addition to ICA-CEPA, the two leaders discussed Canada’s upcoming trade mission to Indonesia, scheduled for December this year.

Dutton revealed that Canada’s Minister of Trade, along with over 200 Canadian business delegates from various sectors, will explore collaborative opportunities and gain a deeper understanding of Indonesia’s business regulations.

The visit will include several high-level bilateral meetings, with Indonesia’s full support.

Both parties also reviewed strategic partnerships on other global initiatives. Canada expressed support for Indonesia’s accession to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), involvement in the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), and progress on the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP).
