Bakrie and Chinese Envision to develop floating solar and wind power plants

Indonesia private manufacture company PT Bakrie & Brothers (BNBR) has sealed an agreement with Envision Energy International Ltd (Envision) to develop floating solar and wind power plants in support of the Indonesian government’s program to reduce emission as well as achieve net zero emission by 2060 in line with the Paris Agreement.

The signing of the memorandum of understanding was conducted by Director of BNBR Roy Hendrajanto M. Sakti and Senior Vice President of Envision HY Yingchun during the 2024 Indonesia-China Business Forum in Beijing on Sunday, November 10, 2024. The event, organized by the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), was attended by President Prabowo Subianto.

“This is an important event for green energy industry transformation series in Indonesia. This is a good opportunity to support domestic investment program that has been endorsed by government aimed at attracting more forign investment in Indonesia, even more in green energy development,” Roy said.

He cited that BNBR and Envision are exploring opportunity to develop floating solar panel and wind power plant with respective capacities of 200 Megawatt. Based on the plan, both power plant will use hybrid power to supply reliable, sustainable clean energy to support power network in eastern part of Indonesia.

On the same occasion, Senior Vice President of Envision, Hu Yingching, said he was glad with the agreement on the development of the latest technology in Indonesian green energy.

“Developing green energy facilities not only contribute to the economy significantly, but also to develop a better and sustainable future for the next generation,” Hu said.

The project will use smart turbine technology owned by Envision to increase wind turbine efficiency and longer service time in hybrid power plant.

Roy said further that BNBR also plans to explore the potential to develop 1,000 hectare green industrial estate in Indonesia. Besides, both companies will initiate the development of nickel processing supply chain to support electric vehicle battery industry for domestic and export market .
