The Upstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Task Force (SKK Migas) recently inaugurated three projects of PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam (PHM) in the Mahakam Block aimed at boosting national oil and gas production.
The inauguration ceremony of the three projects, namely the Bekapai Artificial Lift Project and the Peciko 8A & 8B Projects, which was held on Monday, July 8, 2024, was led by SKK Migas Deputy Head Shinta Damayanti.
Shinta highlighted that these project inaugurations mark a notable achievement and demonstrate that the national upstream oil and gas industry remains resilient and active despite the challenging environment in 2024.
“The inauguration of these three projects is a testament to the continuous efforts by the upstream oil and gas industry, including SKK Migas, KKKS (Contractor), and other supporting entities, to maximize all resources to maintain national production levels,” she said.
The three projects are expected to significantly enhance production capacity, contributing an additional 36 Million Standard Cubic Feet per Day (MMSCFD) of gas and 16,000 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) of oil and condensate.
The peak production anticipated from these projects includes 11.9 MMSCFD of gas and 2,025 BOPD of oil and condensate.
Bekapai Artificial Lift project (Bekapai AL)
The Bekapai Artificial Lift (AL) project involves the installation of a Gas Lift Compressor on the existing Bekapai BA platform, injecting gas-lift into wells on the existing Bekapai BG and BL platforms.
The first gas-in or onstream phase for this project commenced on May 24, 2024. After a successful 72-hour nonstop trial operation, the project was declared fully operational on June 2, 2024, resulting in an increased production of approximately 2,500 BOPD.
Peciko 8A&B – SWPG debottlenecking project
This project includes the installation of a Booster Compressor Package, Liquid Transfer Pump, and Diesel Engine Generator.
It serves as a pilot project aimed at producing oil and gas in LLP (Low Low Pressure) mode on the existing SWPG platform.
Currently, this project has achieved a production gain of 6 MMSCFD, with expectations to increase to 8 MMSCFD.
With the completion of these three projects, a total of 8 projects have been brought onstream by July 2024 out of the 15 targeted for this year.
SKK Migas commends the efforts of KKKS in making breakthroughs and enhancing efficiency in field development.
General Manager of PHM Setyo Sapto Edi reaffirmed PHM’s commitment to conducting safe, efficient, superior, and environmentally friendly upstream oil and gas operations, aimed at ensuring sustainable oil and gas production from the Mahakam Block, that will significantly contribute to reserve additions and achieving national production targets.
