Retno Marsudi, Indonesia’s Foreign Minister from 2014 to 2024, has been appointed as a Non-Executive Director at Gurin Energy.

Gurin Energy, a Singapore-based renewable energy company, was founded in 2021 by Assaad W. Razzouk, Robert Driscoll and Michael Boardman.

The company focuses on the development, ownership of solar and wind powered energy across Asia. It operates in Singapore, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Philippines, Malaysia, and Thailand.

The announcement was made by Gurin Energy’s Chairman, Vimal Vallabh, who highlighted Retno’s extensive experience and strategic insights as critical to the company’s growth.

“Her broad expertise, strategic decision-making, and regional knowledge will strengthen our efforts to accelerate the energy transition in Asia,” Vallabh said in a statement as quoted on Saturday, November 23, 2024.

Expressing her enthusiasm for the role, Retno praised Gurin Energy for its bold approach to driving energy transition in the region.

“I am excited to collaborate with my fellow directors and management team to realize our vision for a sustainable future in Asia,” she said on Saturday.

Gurin Energy is actively engaged in various renewable energy projects across Asia. One notable initiative is the Vanda solar power project in Indonesia, which aims to export electricity to Singapore.

Retno’s portfolio

Retno Marsudi’s appointment to Gurin Energy adds to her impressive portfolio of roles. As of Friday, November 1, 2024, she serves as the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Water Affairs.

She holds the distinction of being Indonesia’s first female Foreign Minister, a position she held for a decade.

Her diplomatic career also includes serving as Indonesia’s Ambassador to the Netherlands (2012–2014), as well as to Norway and Iceland prior to that.
