The Ministry of Public Works and Housing (PUPR) has completed the construction of the Presidential Office Building in Indonesia’s new capital Nusantara (IKN), highlighted with the installation of the final blade in the West Wing of the Garuda Wing on Monday, July 22, 2024.
The Garuda Wing at the Presidential Palace in IKN, designed by artist Nyoman Nuarta, consists of 4,650 blades, with the first blade installed by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on September 17, 2023.
Attention is now on IKN’s readiness for Jokowi to start working there soon, especially since some infrastructure projects have been delayed. Jokowi acknowledged that heavy rains in IKN caused delays in several projects, affecting his plan to begin working in IKN this July.
“This is common in large projects,” Jokowi said at a press conference at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base, East Jakarta, on Tuesday, July 16, 2024.
Jokowi previously stated his readiness to work in IKN, provided that essential infrastructure such as water supply and electricity are established.
The Task Force for Infrastructure Development in IKN reported that there are raw water sources ready to be channeled to the new capital, including the Sepaku Intake and the Sepaku Semoi Dam.
“The capacity at Sepaku Intake is technically 3,000 liters per second, while Sepaku Semoi Dam can reach 2,500 liters per second,” Danis Sumadilaga, Head of the Task Force for Infrastructure Development in IKN, said as quoted by Antara on Sunday, July 21, 2024.
