President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo is scheduled to open the 2nd Indonesia International Sustainability Forum (ISF 2024) on September 5, 2024 in Jakarta, an event of world leaders, CEOs, and sustainability experts seeking encouraging business breakthroughs to address climate change issues.
“We are now in the decisive seconds, a make-or-break moment, because every small step we take can cause setbacks or progress to overcome the climate crisis. The business world must dare to step up, innovate, and lead the process towards a greener and more inclusive sustainable future through collaborative efforts that will be presented by ISF 2024,” Deputy for Infrastructure and Transportation at the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Rachmat Kaimuddin, said on Thursday, July 25, 2024.
Shinta Widjaja Kamdani, Deputy Chairperson for Maritime Affairs, Investment and Foreign Affairs at the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), said that the business sector and global business players have a very important role in promoting sustainability practices and agendas.
“There will be no future on a dead planet.This is why we need to ensure the sustainability of the world today. We are faced with an emergency that should concern everyone, including the corporate world. Therefore, now is the time for the business community to adopt sustainability as a core strategy,” she said.
ISF 2024 is an official Indonesian government event organized by the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment and supported by Kadin. More than 5,000 people are expected to attend the event which will be the largest sustainability event in the Asia-Pacific region, after COP29 in Azerbaijan. The ISF 2024 forum is also expected to produce policy recommendations that will be brought to COP 29 in November.
Among the keynote speakers at ISF 2024 are Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Panjaitan; Minister of Industry and Information Technology of the People’s Republic of China (PRC), Jin Zuanglong; Minister of Environment of the PRC, Huang Rungqiu; Minister of Environment of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Eve Bazaiba; Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Oceans, Peter Thomson; and Director of the Climate Change Division at the United Nations for Environment Programme (UNEP), Dechen Tsering.
More than 100 speakers from business, civil society and government sectors will speak in 10 panel sessions and 15 thematic sessions. The panel sessions will address a wide range of sustainability agenda issues such as green energy and technology transition, human resources, technology and innovation, sustainable living, green financing, nature conservation, and biodiversity protection. There will also be an inclusive forum with an open stage, featuring communities and social organizations that have strong track record in sustainability practices.
