PLN Nusantara Power (PLN NP), a subsidiary of State electricity company PT PLN, recorded electricity production of 66.8 million mega watt hours (MWh) in 2023 or grew 291 percent compared to the 2022 realization of 17 million MWh following plant optimization measures taken throughout last year.

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo said that the alignment of business processes is one of the keys in encouraging the PLN Group’s contribution to bringing reliable electrical energy to the community.

“PLN must move more agilely, quickly and effectively to strengthen existing businesses in managing and providing energy for the benefit of the community, broader business development, especially in the field of new and renewable energy,” Darmawan said on Thursday, July 25, 2024.

PLN NP President Director Ruly Firmansyah said that throughout 2023, the company made various breakthroughs as reflected in the Equivalent Availability Factor (EAF) of Non Steam Power Plant (PLTU) Java-Bali, EAF of Coal Fired Power Plant and Non Coal Fired Power Plants outside Java-Bali which reached more than 100 percent of the set target.

EAF is the readiness factor of a generating unit where the greater the EAF value of a generating unit, the more ready it is to operate in producing electricity.

“As the largest generation subholding in Southeast Asia, we are committed to bringing electrical energy to illuminate the earth, efficiently, precisely, and based on environmentally friendly principles,” Ruly said.

Throughout 2023, PLN NP produced electricity from clean energy of 5.6 million megawatt hours (MWh). The electricity production comes from four renewable energy plants, namely the Brantas Hydroelectric Power Plant, Cirata Hydroelectric Power Plant, Cirata Floating Solar Power Plant and the Nusantara Capital Solar Power Plant.

“The operation of these renewable energy plants, including the Cirata Floating Solar Power Plant which is the largest floating solar power plant in Southeast Asia, is part of PLN NP’s commitment to answering the challenges of energy transition. We also supporting the Green City in IKN by building a 10 MW solar power plant,” Ruly said.

Apart from renewable energy plants, environmentally friendly electricity production also comes from co-firing technology or substituting coal with biomass in coal fired power plants. This co-firing technology is applied in 24 coal fired power plants and produces 511 thousand MWh of clean electricity. This innovation also helps reduce emissions by 533 thousand tons of CO2.
