PKB nominates Rusdi Kirana for MPR Deputy speaker post

The National Awakening Party (PKB) has proposed Rusdi Kirana, owner of the Lion Air Group, as their candidate for Deputy Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR).

Rusdi, who is currently the Vice Chairman of PKB, served as a member of the House of Representatives (DPR) from 2014 to 2019, representing East Java’s 8th electoral district.

“He will be appointed and inaugurated as Deputy Speaker of the MPR,” Chairman of PKB faction at the DPR, Jazilul Fawaid, said in Jakarta on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 as quoted by Antara.

Other potential candidates for MPR leadership include Hidayat Nur Wahid from the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), who previously served as Deputy Speaker of the MPR from 2019 to 2024.

Chairman of PKS factin in DPR, Jazuli Juwaini, hinted that Hidayat’s nomination will be confirmed soon.

Meanwhile, the National Mandate Party (PAN) has put forward Eddy Soeparno, the party’s Vice Chairman and a former Deputy Chairman of DPR Commission VII, as their candidate for MPR Deputy Speaker.

“We will wait for confirmation later tonight,” Saleh Partaonan Daulay, a member of PAN faction in MPR, said on Wednesday, October 2, 2024.

However, Eddy has stated he is unaware of this nomination, saying, “I haven’t heard anything yet,” he said in a text message to Katadata, on Wednesday, October 2, 2024.

Meanwhile, the Nasdem Party announced that Lestari Moerdijat will retain her position as Deputy Speaker of the MPR, a role she held from 2019 to 2024.
