National data center to be completed on October 2024, Minister says

The Ministry of Communication and Informatics targeted to complete the construction of the national data center to be completed and inaugurated on October 2024.

“[Construction of National Data Center] in Bekasi is ongoing and hopefully before October next year it can be inaugurated. Later in 2025, hopefully [data center] in Batam can be completed,” said Director General of Informatics Application of the Ministry of Communication and Informatics Semuel Pengerapan, in a hearing at the House of Representatives on Tuesday (13/6).

Semuel said that the progress of the construction of the national data center in Batam is still in the tender phase. Meanwhile, two other data centers that will be build in the New Capital (IKN) and Labuan Bajo, is still in the planning phase.

“In IKN, we are still analyzing the area, same with Labuan Bajo,” Semuel said.

The construction of national data centers is the government’s program as an effort to prepare the Electronic-Based Governmental System.

Indonesia One Data initiative

The establishment of national data center is also expected to achieve the Indonesia One Data (Satu Data Indonesia) initiative in addition to achieving a more efficient government.

“We hope to achieve Indonesia one data, because only then, data’s can be synchronized and the state can manage data well, and can gather much needed information for policy making,” Semuel explained.

The Indonesia One Data initiative is a government management policy aimed at providing quality, accessible, and shareable data between government and regional institution.

Semuel added that currently, the government is coordinating with the State Cyber and Encryption Agency to prepare a ministerial regulation on national data center, including the security standards.
