PT Barito Renewables Indonesia (BREN), a renewable energy subsidiary of Barito Pacific,  is embracing generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) to optimize its operational activities, particularly in its geothermal division, through the use of cloud-native technology.

The company has partnered with Kyndryl, a U.S.-based IT infrastructure services provider, to implement Kyndryl Bridge, an AI-powered open integration platform designed to enhance IT operations by enabling automation and AI-driven operations (AIOps).

Merly, Director and Corporate Secretary at Barito Renewables, said that the new solution utilizes AI and machine learning to provide real-time insights into IT system performance, proactively detecting issues and offering solutions.

She highlighted that this approach would improve system reliability, reduce downtime, and predict potential system failures before they occur.

The system will also automate various IT tasks, streamline workflows, and allow IT teams to focus on strategic initiatives rather than routine maintenance.

“Kyndryl has been a strong partner in our journey toward cloud computing and services modernization. We believe this new collaboration will accelerate generative AI innovations and drive better outcomes for both our company and our customers,” Merly said in a statement on Monday, December 6, 2024.

Effendi Azmi Hashim, Managing Director of Kyndryl Malaysia and Indonesia, emphasized that the partnership aligns with Indonesia’s government priorities of fostering long-term economic growth through energy resilience and digital transformation.

He noted that the transition to clean energy presents a significant opportunity for Indonesia to diversify its economy while ensuring a reliable and affordable energy supply.

Kyndryl will migrate Barito Renewables’ IT workloads from its operational sites to Microsoft Azure Cloud, promoting cloud innovation and enhancing customer service in the clean energy sector.

This move to the cloud will not only reduce operational costs but also boost agility and scalability, enabling the geothermal unit of Barito Renewables to respond quickly to business needs while adapting to advancements in technology, market dynamics, and evolving cybersecurity regulations.

“Kyndryl’s support will also help Barito Renewables’ geothermal division develop a strategic communications system to strengthen collaboration and internal communication,” Effendi said as quoted in a statement on Monday, December 9, 2024.
