Former Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan has declared his support for the gubernatorial candidate pair Pramono Anung and Rano Karno ahead of the 2024 Jakarta gubernatorial election.

The endorsement was made during a campaign event held at Blok S, South Jakarta, on Thursday, November 21, 2024.

Anies attended the rally for the Warga Kota Kawal TPS community wearing a white shirt, black pants, and an orange beret, symbolizing solidarity with the Pramono-Rano campaign.

At the event, Anies addressed community members and issued three key directives to ensure a fair election process:

  • Encourage Voter Participation: He called on residents to head to polling stations on November 27 to cast their votes;
  • Monitor for Irregularities: He urged the community to safeguard voters from potential fraud during the voting process;
  • Secure the Vote Count: He emphasized the importance of protecting the vote counting process from any external interference.

“These three mandates were shared with the citizens today, and we are grateful that they will be actively guarding each polling station to ensure the election proceeds smoothly,” Anies said.

Anies expressed optimism about the progress of Pramono-Rano’s campaign. He also entrusted the pair with continuing several of his key initiatives in Jakarta, including unfinished projects and programs he championed during his tenure.

“Hopefully, the continuity of Jakarta’s programs will be well-maintained under Mas Pram’s leadership,” he said.

Past engagements, promises

Pramono and Rano visited Anies on November 20, 2024 at his residence in Lebak Bulus, South Jakarta, to discuss ongoing initiatives.

According to Pramono-Rano’s spokesperson, Chico Hakim, Anies entrusted them with completing his legacy projects, such as the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS), and ensuring the welfare of communities under his programs.

“Mas Pram assured Anies of his commitment, and Mas Anies prayed for Mas Pram and Bang Doel’s success in this election,” Chico said.

With Anies’ endorsement, the Pramono-Rano team solidifies its position as a key contender in Jakarta’s 2024 gubernatorial race.
