PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE), Upstream oil and gas subholding of State energy company PT Pertamina, discovered 652 million barrels of oil equivalent (MMBOE) in 2024, the largest exploration reserve discovery in the last 15 years.
The discovery was also an increase by 34 percent compared to the previous year’s realization.
So far, the total number of exploration wells that have been completed has reached 22 units. In addition, PHE recorded a two-dimensional seismic survey of 769 kilometers (Km) and a three-dimensional seismic of 4,990 square Km.
“This achievement can contribute to national oil and gas lifting in order to realize the vision of energy self-sufficiency and national energy security,” Muharram Jaya Panguriseng, PHE Exploration Director, said on Tuesday, February 11, 2025.
Meanwhile, the increase in the company’s oil and gas resource discoveries last year was supported by discoveries in two areas, namely the Tedong (TDG)-001 Well, Central Sulawesi and the Padang Pancuran-1 Well, South Sumatra.
In detail, the potential recoverable findings in Tedong (TDG)-001 reached 548 billion cubic feet of gas (BCFG) and 13.51 million barrels of condensate (MBC). Recoverable resources in the Padang Pancuran-1 Well reached 140.6 million barrels of oil equivalent (MMBOE).
Although lower than Tedong (TDG)-001, the Padang Pancuran-1 well still has three appraisal wells remaining.
Through the discovery of new reserves in South Sumatra, the total recoverable resources (RR) or ready-to-produce oil and gas resources by Pertamina’s Upstream Subholding throughout 2024 are 143 MMBOE and 1.7 trillion cubic feet of gas (TCF).
PHE previously also found gas potential in the Tedong (TDG)-001 well located in Mamosalato District, North Morowali Regency, Central Sulawesi. This vertically drilled well has a depth of 2,448 meters.
After the flow test of the layer content, it was proven that there was a 163 meter thick hydrocarbon column, with a gas content of 15 million cubic feet per day (MMSCFD), and 185 barrels of condensate per day (BCPD).
Fadjar Djoko Santoso, Pertamina Vice President for Corporate Communication, previously said the company continues to strive to increase production in the upstream sector and find new reserves to maintain national energy security.
He said, energy self-sufficiency encourages Pertamina to continue to make breakthroughs in energy planning, both from oil and gas resources and building sustainable business energy with new renewable energy.
