Exploration and production (E&P) company PT Prima Energi Bawean’s Camar Field off the East Java Sea has managed to carry out first lifting of crude oil after resuming operations in February this year following a three-year hiatus due to the Covid 19 pandemic.

In a statement obtained by Indonesia Business Post on Thursday, December 5, 2024, CEO of PT Prima Energi Bawean (PEB) Pieters Utomo said that the success of the first lifing of the company’s Camar Field, Bawean Work Area, which is located some 90 kilometers away from Surabaya, is proof of PEB’s commitment to supporting the national upstream oil and gas industry.

“This lifting is part of PEB’s strategic achievement in contributing to state revenue at the end of 2024. We will continue to synergize with all parties to ensure smooth operations and maximize the potential of the Camar Field and the Bawean Working Area,” Pieters said.

This oil production marks an important achievement after PEB officially obtained the PSC Cost Recovery contract through the Oil and Gas Direct Offer Tender on December 15, 2022. PEB restarted production in the fieldwithin a year.

Initial crude oil production came from two wells, CM-1 and CS-2, at the Camar Field Central Processing Platform (CPP). With an initial production of around 400 barrels of oil per day (BOPD), the total crude oil lifted in this inaugural process was recorded at 95,000 barrels.

In an effort to increase production capacity, PEB is currently carrying out various developments, such as drilling the CW-1 and CW-2 wells at Monopod Platform A (MPA), installing an 8-kilometer pipeline connecting MPA to CPP, and reactivating old wells such as CM-6.

PEB targets an increase in production of up to 2,200 BOPD by 2025, which is expected to make a significant contribution to national energy security.

Milestone

Spokesman of the Upstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Task Force (SKK Migas), Hudi D. Suryodipuro, appreciated the success of this first lifting.

“SKK Migas continues to encourage PEB to increase crude oil production in the Camar Field and carry out exploration programs in the work area so that oil and gas potential can be maximized. This is part of an effort to support national energy security,” Hudi said.

The success of this first lifting is not only a milestone for PEB, but also strengthens national efforts to achieve energy security through optimum and sustainable oil and gas management.
