Prabowo secures US$8.5 billion in UK’s CEO Roundtable Forum

President Prabowo Subianto has secured US$8.5 billion in investment commitment after attending the CEO Rountable Forum held in Lancaster House, London on Thursday, November 21, 2024.

“I just met with leaders of big companies, there are 19 figures here. They were committed to invest US$8.5 billion in Indonesia. This shows their optimism in our economy,” President Prabowo said as quoted in a statement on Friday, November 22, 2024.

Accompanying the president in the forum were Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono, Minister of Investment and Downstream Rosan P. Roeslani, Deputy Minister of Finance Thomas Djiwandono, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, and Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives’ (DPR) Foreign and Defense Commission I Budi Djiwandono.

The president reiterated in his statement that global trust on Indonesia continue to increase as seen from his previous visit to China, the U.S. and Brazil. Besides, the government’s commitment for clean and efficient management becomes one of the main attraction for investors.

“I think it is good enough, it shows global trust on Indonesian economy. For sure , they appreciate our willingness for a clean government,” Prabowo said.

Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati cited that the CEOs were interested in various priority sectors in Indonesia, such as energy transition, infrastructure, education and health, with highlight was put on the development of education − particularly in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) − and health sectors.

“They want to see the policy direction and President’s commitment on investment. Many people were surprised in a positive way when they heard of President’s priority and commitment for clean and efficient government. They really appreciate that,” she said.

Investors’ trust

Investment Minister Rosan Roeslani added that Indonesia’s political and economic stability and peaceful transition of government have increased investors’ trust.

“Their enthusiasm to invest in Indonesia is not only high, but has become higher. They see our political and economic stability as very good and our peaceful transition of government earn us their higher trust,” he said.

The CEO Rountable Forum in London got President Prabowo together with top executives of 19 UK’s big companies discussing strategic investment opportunities in Indonesia.

The forum has become strategic arena to strengthen Indonesia-UK economic relations and widen collaboration opportunities in various sectors.
