Indonesian Minister of Communications and Digital Application, Meutya Hafid, is set to meet Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang on Thursday, November 14, 2024 during Huang’s visit in Jakarta for the Indonesia Artificial Intelligence (AI) Day 2024.

The event, organized by Indosat, will feature Huang as the keynote speaker and highlights Nvidia’s increased involvement in the Southeast Asian technology and AI landscape.

This meeting follows Meutya’s recent engagements with other major global tech firms, such as Microsoft, Yandex, and Nokia. U.S.’s Microsoft and Russia’s Yandex both have shown interest in investing in Indonesia.

Nvidia, now the world’s most valuable company with a market valuation reaching US$3.53 trillion (Rp55,676.4 trillion) in October, has overtaken Apple in terms of stock market value.

The company had previously held this title in June, when its valuation soared from US$2 trillion to US$3 trillion within a span of just 96 days, according to data from the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG).

As part of its expansion strategy, Nvidia has expressed commitment to establishing a US$200 million AI center in Indonesia, in collaboration with Indosat, Google, and Northstar.

The center is planned for Solo Technopark in Surakarta, Central Java, and its construction is expected to begin next year.

This center will position Indonesia as a pivotal player in Nvidia’s growing AI network in Southeast Asia, joining similar AI centers in Malaysia and Singapore.

President Director and CEO of Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, Vikram Sinha, emphasized that Huang’s participation in the AI Day 2024 marks a significant milestone for Indonesia’s role in the region’s AI ecosystem.

The center is anticipated to drive AI innovation, foster local talent, and boost Indonesia’s economy, underscoring Nvidia’s role in advancing the technology sector in Southeast Asia.
