As the government has approved the merger of State airport operators PT Angkasa Pura I and II, Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Erick Thohir ensures that this corporate action will not result in any employee layoffs.

Erick emphasized that the merger aims to enhance Indonesia’s competitiveness in the logistics sector, reduce operational costs, and facilitate transportation.

“Together with Minister of Transportation Budi (Karya Sumadi), we are ensuring Indonesia can compete in logistics,” Erick told reporters on Monday, September 9, 2024.

Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi, who previously served as the CEO of Angkasa Pura II from 2015 to 2016, highlighted the challenges of managing the company.

He noted that the integration of human resources and information technology (IT) systems is essential to improving operational efficiency.

Dony Oskaria, CEO of aviation and tourism service company InJourney, added that following this merger, Indonesia has become the world’s fifth-largest airport operator.

“With this merger, Indonesia is now the fifth-largest airport operator globally,” Dony said.

The merger is part of the SOE ministry’s strategic priorities. Erick expressed confidence that this consolidation will strengthen the company, allowing it to focus on enhancing performance and expanding its market presence in the future.
