Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia, has set to finalize the discussion of the New and Renewable Energy Bill (EBET) within the next two months, emphasizing its importance for optimizing Indonesia’s rich renewable energy resources and carbon capture and storage(CCS) potential.

“This is something we need to finalize. At least within these two months, we should have some clarity. There is already a light at the end of the tunnel, and if possible, let’s turn the light on,” Bahlil told a hearing with the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission VII on Monday, August 26, 2024.

Bahlil noted that the EBET Bill is nearing completion, with only the discussion on power transmission, specifically Power Wheeling, remaining. He expressed confidence that the finalization of the bill is just around the corner.

“It’s just the transmission part left. We’re almost there,” he added.

Previously, Eniya Listiani Dewi, Director-General of New Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (EBTKE) at the ESDM ministry, cited that Minister Bahlil had instructed the acceleration of the EBET Bill’s realization.

“The Minister also requested for it to be expedited,” Eniya told reporters in Jakarta on Tuesday, August 20, 2024.

The swift passage of the EBET Bill is seen as a crucial step toward tapping into Indonesia’s vast renewable energy potential, which includes solar, wind, and geothermal resources.

Additionally, the bill aims to strengthen the country’s framework for carbon capture and storage, a key strategy in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and combating climate change.

As Indonesia seeks to diversify its energy mix and transition towards more sustainable energy sources, the finalization of the EBET Bill will mark a significant milestone in the nation’s energy policy.
