Malaysia has expressed its willingness to collaborate with Indonesia in deploying a joint peacekeeping force to Gaza, Palestine, if mandated by the United Nations (UN), as recently conveyed by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto during a phone call.

“Regarding the humanitarian situation in Palestine, I want to inform you of Malaysia’s willingness to collaborate, including deploying a peacekeeping force with Indonesia if mandated by the UN,” Anwar said on his social media account, as quoted by Antara on Monday, July 1, 2024.

Anwar cited that he had a brief three-minute conversation with Prabowo, expressing gratitude for the successful health operation recently undergone by the elected Indonesian president. He also wished Prabowo a speedy recovery so he could resume his responsibilities soon.

They exchanged views on current issues, especially Prabowo’s recent role in representing Indonesia on the international stage, promoting vision, collaboration, and regional and universal peace.

“I welcome the idea of a Malaysia-Indonesia international peacekeeping mission, and this cooperation can be expanded to the ASEAN regional level,” Anwar added.

At the end of the conversation, Anwar expressed his hope that the Indonesian general elections, culminating in the simultaneous Regional Head Elections on November 27, 2024, would proceed smoothly and that preparations for Prabowo’s inauguration as President of Indonesia on October 20, 2024, would go well.
