State electricity company PT PLN has sealed an agreement to supply green energy of 210 Gigawatt hour (GWh) per year to the global fashion company, H&M Group. Through this collaboration, PLN supports decarbonization measures, especially in the country’s industrial sector.

The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding for Green Energy As Services (GEAS) was carried out by PLN’s Executive Vice President (EVP) of Enterprise Sales and Customer Service, Nayusrizal, with H&M’s Regional Country Manager of China and Southeast Asia, Jessica Wilhelmsson, and witnessed by the General Manager of PLN West Java Distribution Unit, Susiana Mutia, as the green electricity provider for the H&M factory in the West Java region on June 19, 2024.

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo said that PLN is committed to mitigating the impact of climate change by providing electricity from environmentally friendly resources.

“As a company that holds the leadership of energy transition in the country, PLN appreciates H&M’s steps to participate in using PLN’s green energy. This is a milestone in efforts to encourage energy transition and sustainability in the country’s fashion industry,” Darmawan said.

Director of Retail and Commerce of PLN, Edi Srimulyanti, said that the GEAS which will be used by H&M Group in 2025 is a PLN service for customers from the industrial sector which need green electricity supply from PLN’s renewable energy plants (EBT). This service is equipped with an internationally recognized Renewable Energy Certificate (REC).

“As we all know, H&M and its factory partners, as our loyal customers, are dedicated to promoting sustainable practices, including the use of green electricity. Therefore, through this signing, we are committed to providing the green energy needs of H&M and its partner factories,” Edi said.

He added that this cooperation also presents both parties’ vision for a greener future and a real commitment to sustainable development.

“Together, we will explore innovative approaches in accelerating the use of green energy in Indonesia. So that this will not only benefit PLN and H&M but also the wider community and the environment,” he said.
