Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy/Head of the Creative Economy Agency, Sandiaga Salahudin Uno, asserted Indonesia’s commitment for collaborative efforts to maximize water management in the tourism sector for the welfare of the community.

“The tourism sector intersects a lot with water, some say no water no tourism. Currently, we have collaborated on how the tourism sector can maximize the use of water in the tourism sector that can be optimised for the welfare of the community. This is our shared responsibility,” Sandiaga said when attending the opening ceremony of the 10th World Water Forum by President Joko Widodo in Nusa Dua, Bali, on Monday, May 20, 2024.

The World Water Forum is an international forum that gathers stakeholders in the water sector. The global forum, held every three years since 1997, invites all parties to discuss, share knowledge and practice in the management and development of sustainable water resources.

“The World Water Forum is a place where Indonesia shows its leadership in water management. Also how we ensure water as an inseparable part of our lives and we will continue to protect it in the future for our children and grandchildren,” Sandiaga said.

Earlier, he said that Indonesia will continue to take a strategic role and play an important role in world water management, while citing that 72 percent of the earth’s surface is covered by water, but only 1 percent of which can be accessed and used as drinking water and sanitation purposes.

“Therefore, it is our duty together to take a role, especially since 65 percent of Indonesian territory is water,” he said.

Another thing that is of concern is the use of technology, which Sandiaga said, will be an important part of water management in the future.

As the 10th World Water Forum will continue until May 25, 2024. the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy/Tourism and Creative Economy Agency also provides support by presenting a number of activities including the World Water Forum Fair and Expo and the Bali Street Carnival.

“We hope that this activity can at the same time promote Balinese and Indonesian culture to all [World Water Forum] participants,” Sandiaga said.
