Prabowo discusses defense cooperation improvement with Malaysia

Indonesian Defense Minister and President elect Prabowo Subianto paid a courtesy call on Malaysian Prime Minister YM Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Thursday, April 4, 2024, discussing improvement for bilateral defense cooperation.

Addressing the meeting, Prabowo said that in the future, defense cooperation improvement will continue to be a top priority, with Indonesia being committed to continue to improve good relations with friendly countries, especially with Malaysia and other ASEAN countries. 

Prime Minister Anwar said in a written statement via his personal Instagram said that during this meeting they also exchanged experiences and opinions about their respective careers and the desire to strengthen the relationship between Malaysia and Indonesia. 

“May the Malaysia-Indonesia friendly relations continue to be close and strengthened for the common good in the future,” PM Anwar said. 

Later on Thursday, Prabowo met his Malaysian counterpart Mohamed Khaled bin Nordin, at the Malaysian Ministry of Defence, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. 

During the meeting, Prabowo said that the Indonesian Ministry of Defense is committed to jointly creating harmonious and mutually beneficial bilateral defense relations with the Malaysian Ministry of Defence. 

Meanwhile, Defence Minister Khaled expressed his appreciation for Prabowo’s visit to the Malaysian Ministry of Defence. 

Khaled said that during the meeting, various issues were discussed. But most importantly, the two ministers agreed that Malaysia and Indonesia are committed to strengthening regional stability. 

Khaled expressed high hopes that Prabowo could take the relationship between the two countries to a higher level.

“Hopefully the relationship between Malaysia and Indonesia can continue to be strengthened, and this region remains safe, stable and prosperous,” Khaled said.
