Indonesia presidential hopeful Prabowo Subianto claimed victory on Wednesday, February 14, 2014 after quick count tallies by a number of pollsters showed he led the presidential election.

A quick count by Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) showed that Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka secured 58.32 percent, Anies Baswedan -Muhaimin Iskandar 24.96 percent and Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD 16.72 percent.

“On behalf of the Prabowo-Gibran team, we are grateful for the results of the quick counts that already exist. All quick count results by survey institutions, including those hired by the other candidates, show that the Prabowo-Gibran pair indeed wins in one round of election,” Prabowo said in a speech before his supporters on Wednesday evening, February 14, 2024.

Prabowo, however, urged his supporters to calmly wait for the official tally from the General Elections Commision (KPU).

“We are vigilant, a country like ours, a country as big and rich as us is always interfered by other forces. Therefore, we must be compact, united and harmonious … Gibran and I will work hard to invite and establish harmony, unity, collaboration for the sake of the people of Indonesia,” he said.

Prabowo said his government and the Onward Indonesia Coalition will embrace all elements and all forces in Indonesia, describing himself and Gibran as the president and vice president for all the people of Indonesia.

“I will lead together with Gibran to nurture, protect and defend all the people of Indonesia, regardless of their tribes, ethnic groups, race and religion and social background. The people of Indonesia are our responsibility to protect,”he explained.

A few months ago, Prabowo said he and the campaign team have travelled all over Indonesia to visit Indonesian people of different backgrounds.

“Our ancestors have taught us that we must not seek enmity but kinship … this is our custom and culture. The Indonesian people do not like to ridicule and blaspheme each other… Our ancestors alo taught us to raise the good and harbor the less good. Many times, I invite all of us as a nation to become a role model for other nations, let’s be grateful and thankful to the founders of our nation,” he said.

Meanwhile, the vice presidential hopeful Gibran Rakabuming Raka said he didn’t expect the quick count results would be that high.

“I’m sure it’s because of the young people who want to be part of the journey to the Golden Indonesia… In the future, we will continue toinvolve young people,” Gibran said.
