PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE) is expediting the process of developing oil and natural gas (oil and gas) discoveries in Bekasi, West Java.

Muharram Jaya Panguriseng, PHE’s Director of Exploration, said the evaluation process for these oil and gas discoveries, which is underway, aimed to determine whether the oil and gas findings in Bekasi can immediately proceed to the next business phase.

“We will strive to accelerate the subsequent business process for the Bekasi findings, currently under evaluation whether to proceed directly to the PSE [exploration status determination] or add another well; that is what we are currently evaluating,” Muharram told a media gathering in Mandalika, Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara on Tuesday, February 6, 2024.

He hopes that they can pursue the second drilling by the end of this year to promptly determine the exploration status. Following this, they can enter the plan of development (PoD) and production stages.

Muharram also sees the oil and gas discovery in Bekasi as economically viable for development, with the potential for even greater prospects in the future. “The oil and gas findings are approximately 43 million barrels of oil equivalent, predominantly oil but with accompanying gas. That’s the production potential [43 million], but it could be even greater,” he said.

PT Pertamina EP (PEP) announced the potential discovery of oil and gas reserves in two exploration wells in West Java in December 2023. These potentials were found in the East Akasia Cinta (EAC)-001 well within the PEP Jatibarang Field area, Indramayu Regency, West Java, and the East Pondok Aren (EPN)-001 well within the PEP Tambun Field area, Bekasi Regency, also in West Java. The EAC-001 well was spud on September 4, 2023, targeting the conglomerate sandstone reservoir of the Jatibarang Formation and the limestone reservoir of the Upper Cibulakan Formation, which are proven to have produced hydrocarbons in the Jatibarang and Akasia Prima fields, Sub-Jatibarang Sub-basin. This drilling reached a final depth of 2,520 mMD.

Meanwhile, the drilling of the East Pondok Aren (EPN)-001 exploration well was spud on August 18, 2023, targeting the Carbonate reservoir of the Lower Cibulakan Formation, successfully flowing oil and gas during the second Drill Stem Test (DST) with an oil rate of 402 bopd and a gas rate of 1.09 MMscfd at a depth of 2,590 mMD.
