The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) signed a low-carbon business development cooperation agreement with Italian oil giant Eni S.p.A (Eni) at the ministry headquarters in Jakarta on Friday, February 2, 2024.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Dadan Kusdiana and Eni’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Natural Resources, Guido Brusco, witnessed by ESDM Minister Arifin Tasrif.

Arifin mentioned that the signing between the ESDM and Eni is a follow-up to his visit to Eni’s office in Rome, Italy, from January 21 to January 24, 2024. This collaboration, according to Arifin, is one of the efforts to accelerate the target of Net Zero Emission (NZE) in Indonesia by 2060 or earlier.

“With this MoU, it is hoped that ENI can assist in Indonesia’s decarbonization program and strengthen the cooperation between Eni and Indonesia,” Arifin said in media statement on Friday.

The MoU contains intentions between the Ministry of ESDM and Eni related to the development of bio-feedstock for biofuel production, nature-based and technology-based carbon offsets, and other initiatives related to energy transition and decarbonization, including but not limited to the Carbon Capture Storage/Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCS/CCUS) program and energy efficiency.
