A key person in the Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar National Election Winning Team expressed hope that the recent meeting between Anies and veteran politician Emil Salim would encourage all components of the nation to realize ethical, democratic, honest, fair and dignified partaking in the upcoming presidential election.

Presidential candidate number 1 Anies Baswedan met former cabinet minister and senior politician Prof. Emil Salim for a discussion at the Patra Kuningan area in South Jakarta on Sunday evening, January 28, 2024.

“Democracy in Indonesia is monitored by the world because of the important position of this nation as the largest Muslim population in the world. This is such an important step if we all want to re-establish the noble values of the nation in accordance with the mandate of the Preamble of the 1945 Constitution,” Sudirman Said, Executive Co-Captain of the Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar National Election Winning Team, said on Monday, January 29, 2024.

“We hope that the meeting between Pak Anies and Prof. Emil Salim can encourage the enthusiasm of all elements of the nation in realising a democratic, honest, fair and dignified presidential election,” Sudirman, who was also present at the meeting, added.

He cited that Prof Emil’s thoughts and experiences were very much needed in building the nation in the future.

“Pak Anies highly respects Prof. Emil’s stature, thoughts, and expertise in both the economic and environmental fields. The discussion about nationality and political ethics between Prof Emil and pak Anies is very useful for Indonesia in the future,” Sudirman said.

Sudirman said that Anies Baswedan as a young figure certainly hoped to exchange ideas and get advice from Prof Emil, which will further help finalize the readiness of Anies-Muhaimin pair if they got the mandate from the people to lead the country in realizing a just and prosperous Indonesia for all.

“It is also worth remembering for presidential and vice presidential candidates that the noblest task of leaders is to provide the best example, in thought, word, and deed. Ethics are important for all of us, especially leaders at all levels,” he said.
