Pertamina Patra Niaga, Subholding Commercial and Trading of PT Pertamina, has initiated the refueling of environmentally friendly fuel for cruise ships docking at Benoa Port in Bali on Monday. One of the recipients of this eco-friendly fuel is the Norwegian Jewel cruise ship.

Managed by Norwegian Cruise Line Holding, the Norwegian Jewel is currently on a 14-day journey to five countries in Southeast Asia, with one of its destinations being Bali, Indonesia. This initiative by Pertamina Patra Niaga is a show of support for the National Strategic Tourism Area Development Program (KSPN), specifically the Bali Maritime Tourism Hub (BMTH).

Maya Kusmaya, Director of Marketing at PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, said they have supplied 450 metric tons (MT) of Very Low Sulfur Fuel Oil (VLSFO) at the Benoa Port. “This is Pertamina Patra Niaga’s commitment to support Benoa as a world-class tourism homeport and demonstrates our readiness to provide fueling services for ships with international sailing routes,” said Maya on Tuesday.

Maya added that the entire VLSFO refueling process conducted by Pertamina Patra Niaga adhered to globally standardized safety and operational procedures. Furthermore, the VLSFO supplied by Pertamina Patra Niaga complies with ISO 8217:2017 standards and International Maritime Organization regulations related to carbon emission reduction from ship fuel. The VLSFO supplied to the Norwegian Jewel currently has a maximum sulfur content of 0.5 percent.

In support of further BMTH development, Pertamina Patra Niaga also offers another environmentally friendly marine fuel product known as Very Low Sulfur Marine Gas Oil (VLSMGO), available at the Sanggaran Fuel Terminal in Bali. According to Maya, VLSMGO is another variant of gasoil commonly used in international shipping, with specifications similar to Pertamina Dex.

“The provision of environmentally friendly VLSFO and VLSMGO products is our commitment to reducing carbon emissions in the maritime industry sector and supporting the realization of Indonesia’s Net Zero Emission goal by 2060,” Maya said.
