Presidential and vice-presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka have outlined their vision to construct 10 innovation cities across Indonesia if they emerge victorious in the 2024 Presidential Election.
This announcement was made by Budiman Sudjatmiko, a member of the Expert Council of the Prabowo-Gibran National Campaign Team (TKN), during his presentation at the Indonesia Digital Summit 2023 on Tuesday, November 28, 2023.
Underlining the importance of blending digital and analog aspects, Budiman stated that “the 10 innovation cities that Prabowo-Gibran aim to establish are essential due to the extraordinary social, economic, and cultural impacts posed by the challenges we are facing.”
Risk of losing relevance
Budiman highlighted the potential consequences of not addressing these challenges cautiously, warning that Indonesia could risk losing relevance as a nation.
Therefore, the Prabowo-Gibran TKN considers the establishment of the National Capital (IKN) crucial, as it can serve as an analog space for the epicenter of the digital economy.
“IKN acts as an integrator and aggregator of the digital ecosystem, realizing the ideals of independence, safeguarding the entire Indonesian nation, promoting general welfare, and enlightening the nation,” he explained.
Additionally, the plan involves 98 cities across Indonesia serving as accelerators for the development of the country’s digital ecosystem, fostering global connectivity, and 416 regencies functioning as stabilizers and facilitators to ensure the sustainability of Indonesia’s digital development.
Moreover, 74,961 villages are designated as dynamic hubs for production bases, human resources, and early adopters of various digital technology innovations created by the nation’s youth.
Budiman outlined the distribution of these 10 innovation cities across Indonesia, each focusing on specific industries:
- IKN – genome & nanotechnology industry
- Sumatra 1 – chips & neuroscience industry
- Sumatra 2 – IOT & sensors industry
- Java 1 – AI & computational technology industry
- Java 2 – mobile devices & VR/AR industry
- Java 3 – robotics & autonomous vehicles industry
- Bali – human-computer interface & social media industry
- Sulawesi – biotechnology & agriculture industry
