The recent death of Brigadier Ignatius Dwi Frisco Sirage, a member of the National Police Special Detachment 88, has raised numerous suspicions.

Ignatius died when a firearm, held and aimed at him by his senior officer, Brigadier Ifan Muhammad Saifuloh Pelupessy, suddenly discharged.

Commissioner General Surawan, the Director of General Criminal Investigation of the West Java Regional Police, has stated that Ignatius’ death resulted from negligence.

Moreover, the police are still investigating the suspected motive of an illegal firearms transaction that may have caused the shooting. This is because the pistol used by Ifan was a makeshift firearm.

No negligence

Ignatius Dwi Frisco Sirage’s lawyer, Jajang, views his client’s death as perplexing and irrational.

Jajang argued that it is impossible for a firearm (gun) just taken from a bag to suddenly discharge and hit the victim’s head. Furthermore, the suspect is a member of Densus 88, who have trained to handle firearms.

“It’s highly implausible that it happened due to negligence, and the firearm suddenly going off. That’s strange and not logically acceptable. Special Counter-Terrorism Detachment 88 members are, of course, highly trained in using and controlling firearms,” Jajang stated.

Jajang disclosed that before the shooting incident occurred, the suspect, known as Bripda IMS, had already placed a magazine of bullets into the bag.

Therefore, he suspects that the illegal firearm used to shoot Bripda IDF may have been premeditated.
