Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan met with a number of US officials including the US Minister of Finance, Janet Yellen and Antony Blinken to discuss a number of important issues.

The meeting also discussed the development of the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) cooperation between Indonesia and America.

In addition, Luhut also discussed the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and development cooperation in the critical mineral sector, which is very crucial for battery raw materials for electric vehicles.

“I hope that cooperation in this field can be further strengthened with support from the United States,” said Luhut.

Discussing the energy sector

The meeting also discussed strategic cooperation between Indonesia and the US in the energy sector, such as the development of PT Pertamina (Persero) assets.

“In the spirit of mutual benefit, Indonesia and the United States are committed to continuing close and sustainable cooperation in various fields, including energy, trade and critical resources.” Luhut said.

On the other hand, Luhut also met with Antony Blinken, Secretary of State to discuss the development of bilateral relations between Indonesia and the US, as well as the two countries’ commitments in various strategic fields.

“Efforts to increase cooperation in strategic fields, including in the maritime sector, defense, climate change, green infrastructure and technology, are one of the main focuses of the talks,” said Luhut.

Underlining importance of Indo-Pacific Framework for Prosperity

Both emphasized the importance of the United States and Indonesia’s economic relationship, including continued cooperation in negotiations of the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF), support for the U.S. Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) host year in 2023, and scaling new infrastructure investments through the Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investments (PGII).

The Secretary and the Coordinating Minister also discussed progress in implementing Indonesia’s Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) — a landmark, long-term partnership, launched at the G20 under PGII, that will mobilize US$ 20 billion in public and private financing to accelerate Indonesia’s clean-energy transition.
