Survey reveals PDIP electability increases following Ganjar’s nomination

Despite having suffered from low electability score, a recent survey conducted by Saiful Mujani Research and Consulting (SMRC) revealed that the electability score of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) increases after announcing Ganjar Pranowo as the party’s presidential candidate.

SMRC’s Director of Research Deni Irvani stated that a survey conducted on April 18 to April 19, 2023, PDIP scored a low electability rate of 16.1 percent.

However, after announcing Ganjar as the party’s presidential candidate, PDIP’s electability rate increases to 19.9 percent based on a survey conducted from April 25 to April 28, 2023.

Deni asserted the increase proved that Ganjar’s nomination by PDIP successfully generated positive electoral effects on the party.

“PDIP’s decision to nominate Ganjar as presidential candidate appears to have positive effects to PDIP. After experiencing a decreasing trend, PDIP’s electability among critical voters increases following Ganjar’s nomination,” Deni said.

Following PDIP on second place is the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) with 12.4 percent electability score, and then Golkar Party on third place with 9.3 percent.

Deni further explained that the political mapping for 2024 Election will not be much different with the 2019 Election.

“The big three are still the same, PDIP on top, followed by Gerindra and Golkar. No significant changes in party composition or strength,” Deni said.

The survey was conducted using the Random Digit Dialing (RDD) method where SMRC generated and called a random number. The survey involves a total of 1,021 respondents.
