The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) declared Ganjar Pranowo as its 2024 presidential candidate, which will be followed by support from various other parties.
Born in 1968, Ganjar Pranowo has undergraduate and postgraduate degrees majoring in Law and Political Science. From 2004 to 2009, he served as a Member of Commission IV of the Indonesian Parliament for Agriculture, Plantation, Forestry, Maritime Affairs, Fisheries, and Food). From 2009 to 2013, he was Deputy Chairman of Commission II of the Indonesian Parliament for Domestic Administration, Regional Autonomy, State Apparatus, Bureaucratic Reform, Elections, Land Affairs, and Agrarian Reform. In 2013-2023, Pranowo was Governor of Central Java. Pranowo has a net worth of IDR 11.7 billion according to a financial statement for 2021 as of March 30, 2022.
Secretary General of the PDI-P, Hasto Kristiyanto, said that his party would establish political communication with other political parties. However, he did not provide further detail on which political party it would be.
“We’ll have to wait and see, that in the coming weeks, there will be a declaration from another political party [political party] supporting the presidential candidate from PDIP, Mr Ganjar,” said Kristiyanto on April 24, 2023.
Kristiyanto explained that Megawati had given directions to Pranowo so that he could become a wise and good leader. In addition, Pranowo was directed to understand the responsibility for the interests of the people, nation, and state.
“Bu Mega’s message was not only addressed to Pak Ganjar, but also to all PDIP cadres, bearing in mind that the presidential candidate, who is a cadre, and party officials from PDIP must be supported as one unit, the collective strength of the PDIP, which is one with the people,” said Kristiyanto.
After the PDI-P’s declaration against Pranowo, parties like Hanura immediately supported him. Oesman Sapta Odang (OSO), Chairman of the Hanura Party, said that his party is ready to support the Governor of Central Java as a presidential candidate.
“The Hanura Party has expressed support for Pak Ganjar Pranowo as a presidential candidate,” said Odang on April 22, 2023.
