Indonesia to develop Membramo hydropower plant for smelter industry

On the opening speech of 10th Indonesia EBTKE conex 2021 , November 22, 2021 , Indonesia President Joko Widodo ordered Coordinating Minister for Maritime and Invesment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan to develop two biggest hydro power plants in Indonesia, Kayan river and Membramo river. "Indonesia has 4400 rivers , big rivers and medium one , and we can use hydropower.However, the investment is very huge, so I talked to Coordinating Minister for Maritime and Investment ,we try these
two project, Kayan River and Membramo River," said Jokowi in his speech.

According to Jokowi, the Membramo hydro power plant has a potential capacity of 24,000 MW, while Kayan hydro power plant has 13,000 MW in capacity. " Please look for investors who will invest there.If the have invested there, please do not supply the electricity to PLN's grid. Construct separate grid for industry." he said, adding that the ministry should attract investors to invest in industry that will consume power from the hydro power plants.
