President Prabowo Subianto arrived in St. Petersburg, Russia, on Wednesday evening, June 18, 2025, for a visit at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, which is part of the efforts to bolster strategic partnership between Indonesia and Russia and his participation in the 2025 St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).

“In Russia, President Prabowo, who was personally invited by President Putin, will be officially received with a State welcome and will hold a bilateral meeting on June 19, 2025,” Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said as quoted in a statement on Thursday, June 19, 2025.

Upon arriving at Pulkovo International Airport at about 5:50 pm local time, President Prabowo was greeted by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, Deputy Head of State Protocol Alexander Prusov, and Indonesia’s Foreign Minister Sugiono.

President Prabowo and DPM Manturov then proceeded through a military honor guard inspection, pausing for the national anthems of both countries − “Indonesia Raya” and the Russian Federation anthem − played with ceremonial precision. Afterward, both leaders introduced members of their respective delegations.

The Russian side included Senator Ilyas Umakhanov of Dagestan, Russian Ambassador to Indonesia Sergei Tolchenov, and St. Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov. From the Indonesian delegation were Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, Indonesian Ambassador to Russia Jose Tavares, and Defense Attaché at the Indonesian Embassy in Moscow, Commodore Jatmiko Adi.

Before departing the airport, President Prabowo observed a brief military parade by the honor guards. He and his limited entourage then proceeded to their accommodations in the city.

The visit will continue with a formal bilateral meeting between President Prabowo and President Putin on Thursday, June 19. The talks are expected to focus on enhancing cooperation in key sectors, reinforcing both nations’ commitment to their long-standing strategic partnership.
