President Prabowo Subianto is set to embark on a significant diplomatic mission to Russia following an official visit to Singapore, underscoring Indonesia’s increasing prominence on the global stage.
Presidential Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya has confirmed that the visit to Russia comes at the personal invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“President Prabowo, who was directly invited by President Putin, will be received with an official State welcome and hold a bilateral meeting on June 19, 2025,” Teddy said as quoted in a press statement on June 15, 2025.
Before heading to Moscow, President Prabowo will attend the Singapore-Indonesia Leaders’ Retreat on June 16, where he is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Lawrence Wong. The retreat aims to strengthen bilateral ties and discuss regional cooperation strategies between the two Southeast Asian nations.
Following his engagements in Russia, President Prabowo is also slated to deliver a keynote address at the prestigious St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) 2025 on June 20. The SPIEF is a globally recognized economic summit bringing together heads of state, business leaders, and policy experts to shape economic dialogue and multilateral cooperation.
“This state visit is a highly strategic moment to advance comprehensive partnerships between Indonesia and Russia,” Teddy said. “It demonstrates how Indonesia, as a major nation, is increasingly respected on the global platform, especially amidst evolving international challenges.”
President Prabowo’s overseas tour reflects Indonesia’s proactive diplomatic stance and ambition to play a more assertive role in global affairs, especially in the realms of economic collaboration and strategic security.
