President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and leaders of countries participating in the 10th World Water Forum visited the Ngurah Rai Grand Forest Park (Tahura), Bali on Monday, May 20, 2024.

Tahura is a mangrove forest rehabilitation and conservation area that implements the principle of Balinese teachings, Tri Hita Karana, which prioritizes a balanced relationship between God, humans, and nature.

On the occasion, the Indonesian president and the State leaders participating in the 10th World Water Forum symbolically gave tree seedlings to children as the next generation who will continue environmental conservation efforts.

“The activity of handing over seedlings and planting trees in Tahura is a reflection of our joint determination to promote cooperation and concrete actions for global development,” President Joko Widodo said.

The Indonesian Head of State invited the delegation to enter the Tahura area located along the estuary which is supported by solar power generation electricity technology.

The solar panels at Tahura were adopted from the Cirata solar panel project which is a joint project between Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates, launched in West Java Province some time ago.

The 10th World Water Forum carries the theme “Water for Shared Prosperity” which reflects a concrete manifestation of Indonesia’s and the world’s commitment to tackling climate change, through concrete actions of green economic development and sustainable environmental conservation.

Mangrove plants that sprawl in the Tahura Ngurah Rai area are important to support ecosystems and human welfare, filter and regulate the freshwater cycle and become a solution to the threat of climate change and biodiversity extinction.

President Joko Widodo emphasized the great potential of mangrove forests that can absorb and store carbon 4-5 times higher than ordinary forests, and can support the improvement of the survival of coastal communities.

The Bali Tahura Mangrove Forest area was inaugurated by President Joko Widodo in early February 2023, along with the inauguration of the Danu Kerthi Tamblang Dam in Buleleng Regency.
