President Jokowi, Tajikistan premier strengthen cooperation on water management

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and Prime Minister of Tajikistan Qohir Rasulzoda held a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the 10th World Water Forum at the Bali International Convention Center (BICC), Monday, May 20, 2024, discussing efforts to strengthen cooperation in water resources management.

On the occasion, President Jokowi expressed his gratitude for Tajikistan’s support for the forum outcome that will be adopted. He ensured that Indonesia is committed to ensuring the sustainability of clean water quality for the common welfare.

“I expect Tajikistan’s contribution as one of the leaders in global water policy to find solutions together,” President Jokowi said.

Meanwhile, PM Rasulzoda expressed his appreciation for the invitation received and emphasized that Indonesia is an important partner for Tajikistan. PM Rasulzoda also recognized Indonesia’s constructive role in regional and international affairs.

“Tajikistan recognizes Indonesia as an important partner in the region and is interested in strengthening multilateral and mutually beneficial cooperation. We highly appreciate Indonesia’s significant achievements in the path of economic and social development. Indonesia’s constructive role in regional and international affairs is very valuable,” he said.

Furthermore, the Tajikistan PM invited Indonesia to attend the international conference on the International Decade of Action “Water for Sustainable Development” to be held in Dushanbe.

PM Rasulzoda also highlighted that 2024 will mark the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, and the moment to deepen and expand cooperation.

“In 2024 we will celebrate 30 years of diplomatic relations between Tajikistan and Indonesia and I think our relations still need to be strengthened and expanded,” he said.

Accompanying President Jokowi in the meeting were Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi, Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, and Minister of Investment/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board Bahlil Lahadalia.
