Jakarta – Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto met with Turkish Defense Minister Yaşar Güler at the Ministry of Defense office in Jakarta on Thursday, August 22, 2024, discussing bilateral defense cooperation and knowledge transfer.

“I thank and appreciate Turkish Defense Minister Yaşar Güler for his visit to the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Indonesia,” Prabowo said in a statement as quoted on Friday, August 23, 2024.

Turkey has become Indonesia’s special partner in defense cooperation. One of them is shown by the signing of a defense industry cooperation document in 2010 and followed by the Defense Industry Cooperation Meeting, which began in 2012.

Prabowo expressed hope that the bilateral relations between Indonesia and Turkey in the field of defense will make positive contribution not only to the national interests of the two countries, but also to security stability in the region.

Prabowo also stressed the importance of knowledge transfer and capacity building, leading to initiatives such as large-scale scholarships for Indonesian students to Turkiye, short courses on defense industry programs, and the establishment of Turkish language programs in Indonesian universities.
