Prabowo meets Chinese premier, defense minister at end of visit to China

Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto separately met with Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang and Defense Minister Admiral Dong Jun in Beijing at the end of his visit to China on Tuesday, April 2, 2024.

Prabowo met with Prime Minister Li Qiang a day after he paid a courtesy call to Chinese President Xi Jinping.

During the bilateral meeting, Prabowo expressed his appreciation for the honor given to the Indonesian delegation.

“I came with the intention of expressing my desire and hope to enhance the friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries,” Defence Minister Prabowo said.

“We see the complementary relationship between China and Indonesia is a reality that we are very grateful for, for the friendship and trust in us,” he added. 

Meanwhile, Chinese Premier Li Qiang assessed that relations between China and Indonesia have developed rapidly and opened a new chapter in building a community in the future together.

According to him, the visit of Defense Minister Prabowo to China shows the deep friendship between China and Indonesia.

Li Qiang also affirmed that he is ready to work with Indonesia to maintain mutual trust and deepen comprehensive cooperation that is mutually beneficial and beneficial to both countries.

He also said that China is ready to strengthen communication and cooperation with Indonesia multilaterally such as through the United Nations and East Asian cooperation mechanisms, to jointly safeguard the better interests of developing countries.

Later on Tuesday, Prabowo met with Chinese Defense Minister Admiral Dong Jun. 

During the meeting, Prabowo similarly expressed his gratitude for the reception and hospitality of Admiral Dong Jun as host during his visit with the Indonesian delegation to the Chinese Ministry of Defense.

He also cited that previous meetings with the Chinese President and Chinese Prime Minister had resulted in very good and productive discussions between Indonesia and China.

“Indonesia is willing to further strengthen defence cooperation with the Chinese side and continue to promote the development of relations between the armed forces of the two countries,” Prabowo told his Chinese counterpart.

Meanwhile, Admiral Dong Jun said that the Chinese military is willing to work with the Indonesian military to consolidate their strategic trust, promote joint exercises and training, and increase personnel exchanges to bring their practical cooperation to a new level.
