Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto received a courtesy call from Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi at the Ministry of Defense in Jakarta on Thursday, April 18, 2024.

During the meeting, Prabowo greeted and thanked Foreign Minister Wang for his visit.

“It is my great honor to welcome you today and thank you for your kind reception to me in Beijing a few weeks ago,” Prabowo, who is also President Elect, said.

On the occasion, Foreign Minister Wang also expressed his gratitude for Prabowo’s recent visit to China.

“We really appreciate and welcome Defense Minister Prabowo’s visit to China,” Wang said.

“We are committed to continuing to enhance bilateral cooperation with Indonesia, both in defense and other fields, such as economy, social and cultural affairs,” he added.

During the meeting, a number of topics on bilateral cooperation were discussed, including in the field of defense, such as cooperation in education and training, joint exercises, and defense industry.

In the field of defense, Indonesia and China have been involved in military education and training since the 1970s. Currently, a number of Indonesian defense personnel are studying in China, including at the Staff and Command School and other military training programs. Conversely, Chinese military personnel also attend similar military education institutions in Indonesia.
