The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) has aimed at strengthening Indonesian business with China. Kadin has also committed to build partnerships in order to increase cooperation and prosperity between businesspeople and the government of both countries.

The commitment was delivered during the “Night of Indonesia-China Togetherness” at the Borobudur Hotel on September 15, 2022. Numerous representatives of companies from China as well as representatives of the Indonesian government attended the event.

Notable figures such as Kadin’s Chinese Committee (KIKT) Garibaldi Thohir, Kadin Chairman Arsjad Rasjid, Ambassador of China to Indonesia Lu Kang and Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD were also present.

Thohir said: “[The event was to] ensure Chinese investors [that they] can run their business well and get the best partners in Indonesia.”

According to Thohir, China’s investment in Indonesia is very much in line with the government’s priorities, especially the downstream industry development. Thus, there is a maximum added value for national interest, such as opening employment opportunities, increasing exports, generating foreign exchange, and increasing state income as well as economic growth of both countries.

Thohir said despite many turmoils which affected the global economy – including the COVID-19 pandemic and Russia’s invasion to Ukraine – Indonesia’s economy still grew positively. Indonesia has seen a 5.44% increase in its economy in the second quarter 2022, a trade balance surplus of up to IDR 364 trillion for 27 consecutive months and adequate inflation control of around 4.9%. According to him, Indonesia is the only ASEAN country with inflation below 7% – compared to other developed countries at 9% – and can maintain it.
