Indonesia-Oman explore digital infrastructure collaboration to boost growth, innovation

Meutya Hafid, Minister of Communication and Digital, has opened up the potential for cooperation with the Sultanate of Oman to invest in digital infrastructure in Indonesia.

The offer was made during a discussion with the Sultanate of Oman on the development of cooperation in the digital sector held at the Reception for the 54th National Day of the Sultanate of Oman in Jakarta, on Tuesday, November 19, 2024.

“The two countries have a great opportunity to work together more closely in advancing digital infrastructure, cybersecurity, and encouraging innovation,” Meutya said.

She expressed hope that through such collaboration, an innovative solution will be created in encouraging economic growth as well as improving governance and the quality of life of the community.

Earlier, Meutya held a bilateral meeting with Marisa Lago, Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade, U.S. Department of Commerce, along with the U.S. Ambassador to Indonesia Kamala Shirin Lakhdir on Monday, November 18, 2024.

The meeting discussed strengthening cooperation in the field of digital technology, focusing on the development of artificial intelligence (AI), inclusive digital transformation, and smart cities.

So far, 12 American companies have visited Jakarta, Denpasar, and the future Nusantara  Capital City (IKN). Meutya hopes that a dozen corporations will also invest in the development of smart cities, especially IKN.

Meutya had also received a visit from the Australian Ambassador to Indonesia, Penny Williams in Jakarta, on Wednesday, October 30, 2024.

In the meeting, it was revealed that Indonesia and Australia experienced almost the same challenges in implementing the government’s digital initiatives. Meutya hopes for increased dialogue and cooperation that is beneficial to create a safe cyberspace and support the economic growth of both countries.

So far, 19 Australian companies have expressed commitment to invest in technology and digital in Indonesia. This is part of the Indonesia-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Action Plan for the period 2025-2029.
