A delegation led by Mr. John Lee, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), is set to visit Jakarta from July 25 to 27, 2023. The visit aims to strengthen economic relations between Hong Kong and Indonesia and explore business cooperation opportunities between the two regions.

“This delegation is facilitated by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and comprises several top officials from the HKSAR Government and over 30 business leaders representing various economic sectors and development,” said Dr. Peter K N Lam, Chairman of HKTDC.

One significant moment during the delegation’s visit is a business luncheon scheduled for July 26 at the Shangri-La Hotel Jakarta. During this event, the delegation will meet with Indonesian entrepreneurs and the business community.

The goal of the meeting is to build a network of cooperation and discuss investment opportunities and collaboration between the two countries.

Dr. Peter K N Lam, Chairman of HKTDC, stated that HKTDC has played a role in facilitating business opportunities between Hong Kong and the world for almost six decades.

With the HKSAR delegation’s visit to Indonesia, they hope to deepen the strong ties between the two regions, particularly in the context of economic relations between Hong Kong and ASEAN countries.

“This visit is also considered a platform for the exchange of ideas, exploring new opportunities, and fostering greater collaboration between business and government,” he added.

Dr. Peter K N Lam believes that through collaboration, success and prosperity can be achieved for Hong Kong, Indonesia, and the entire region.

In the context of China-Indonesia relations, Hong Kong holds a strategic position as an international business hub, a financial center, and a gateway to mainland China.

This provides numerous opportunities for Indonesian businesses to grow and expand their international reach.

Additionally, Indonesia’s strategic development plans, including the 2045 vision to become an advanced country and the world’s fifth-largest economy by 2045, also create new potential for business collaboration with Hong Kong.

Apart from being a hub for trade and finance, Hong Kong serves as a bridge between mainland China and the rest of the world.

Initiatives such as the Belt and Road Initiative and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) create many new opportunities that can be leveraged, strengthening Hong Kong’s role as a leading financial, trade, logistics, and cultural exchange center in the region.

Therefore, Hong Kong is considered an ideal partner for Indonesian companies looking to explore significant opportunities in the GBA and international markets.

The HKSAR delegation’s visit to Indonesia is expected to be a step forward in strengthening business cooperation between the two regions, building stronger bonds, and promoting mutually beneficial economic growth.

Through this collaboration, it is hoped that new opportunities will open up, benefiting both parties and contributing to the growth of the regional economy.
