Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Arifin Tasrif, was recently on a two-day tour to China in an effort to actively promote energy transition, particularly in accelerating battery-based electric vehicles (KBLBB), and explore collaboration opportunities with Chinese firms.

Arifin visited the refinery, precursor, and cathode material factory of Zhejiang Huayou Cobalt Co. in Quzhou, a major player in the new energy lithium battery materials industry, which supports the downstream industry chain in Indonesia.

“We hope that Huayou will utilize and enhance its investments in Indonesia through ongoing projects,” Arifin said in a statement on May 31, 2024.

During his May 25-26, 2024 visit, Arifin also explored collaboration opportunities by visiting Qianjiang Motorcycle in Taizhou and Siekon Transmission Technology in Tongxiang, focusing on research for electric motorcycle conversion. The discussions that were held revolved around the latest developments in Indonesia’s industry and efforts for cooperation.

Arifin appreciated the comprehensive insights gained from the trip and acknowledged the significant role of Huayou, Qianjiang Motorcycle, and Siekon Transmission Technology in the ASEAN market for their innovative conversion from fuel to electric energy.

Huayou Chairman, Chen Xuehua, highlighted Huayou’s role in enhancing China-Indonesia economic cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), leveraging technological advantages and Indonesian resources to contribute to Indonesia’s economic and social development.

He also mentioned Huayou’s joint venture with LG Chem to establish a precursor and cathode material processing plant in Indonesia, with a planned capacity of 50,000 tons of nickel annually.
