While the central government continues to push for the development of the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) in East Kalimantan, the surrounding areas are exploring their potential as connectors or economic growth boosters for the future capital city.

One such area visited by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on March 17, 2023, was Tabalong Regency, South Kalimantan, which serves as a direct access point between the national roads of South Kalimantan and East Kalimantan, boasting significant industrial development.

Former Tabalong Regent Anang Syakhfiani said that a 3,200-hectare area in Seradang village, Haruai sub-district, has been designated as an industrial zone.

“The development of the Seradang Industrial Zone Master Plan involves several parties, including the Indonesian Institute of Sciences [LIPI/BRIN] and the Bandung Institute of Technology [ITB], utilizing the concept of a Smart Industrial Park based on regional potential,” Anang said.

As a result, the industrial zone will directly absorb flagship commodities developed in ‘Sarabakawa Land’. Besides accommodating dozens of factories, warehouses, and offices, the Seradang Industrial Zone is equipped with integrated road networks, drainage systems, water supply networks, electricity networks, telecommunications networks, waste management, and other supporting facilities.

Furthermore, to facilitate investment activities, the Tabalong Regency Administration is providing ease of business licensing through the Tabalong Regency Public Service Mall.

“This facility will undoubtedly provide convenience for investors in handling all administrative licensing matters in one place.” Anang said.

According to the Tabalong Investment and Integrated One-Stop Service Office (DPMPTSP) data, investment realization in the regency amounted to Rp3.2 trillion (US$199.4 million) throughout 2022, with Domestic Direct Investment totaling Rp 3.1 trillion and Foreign Direct Investment totaling Rp 127 billion.

“Certainly, what we are doing aligns with the directives of President Jokowi and will be continued by the administration of Mr. Prabowo Subianto and Mr. Gibran (Rakabuming Raka),” Anang said.
