Coordinating Minister of Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, Hadi Tjahjanto, has announced that the recovery operation by a joint team of the Ministry of Communication and Informatics, the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN), and PT Telkom has managed to restore the services by the Second Temporary National Data Center (PDNS 2) for a total of 86 services from 16 tenants that were previously disrupted by cyber hackers.

“As of July 12 afternoon, 86 services from 16 ministries, agencies, and local governments have gone live,” Hadi said in a statement as quoted on Saturday, July 13, 2024.

Several public services have been restored, including licensing services and informational portals, as well as scholarship services managed by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology.

Hadi cited that the recovery process is divided into three zones based on data handling techniques. Data affected by the hacking incident at PDNS 2 is placed in the red zone and quarantined. The data is then moved to the blue zone for security strengthening and vulnerability scanning.

“After this, services can go live or public service data can be uploaded to another data center in the green zone, ready for use again,” the minister said.

Hadi emphasized that each recovery stage is carried out carefully to minimize potential cyber-attack vulnerabilities that could impact public services.

“The government is cleaning data from any suspicious malware or viruses from the rescued data, while also strengthening the security parameters of the infrastructure,” he said.
