President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo summoned up senior officers of the Indonesian Military (TNI) and National Police (Polri) at the Nusantara Hall of the State Palace in the new capital Nusantara (IKN), East Kalimantan, on Thursday, September 12, 2024.

In this meeting, Jokowi extended key directives to ensure national security as the country prepares for the upcoming presidential inauguration and regional elections.

One of the main instructions Jokowi emphasized was maintaining stability and security ahead of the inauguration of President-elect Prabowo Subianto and Vice President-elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka, scheduled for October 20, 2024.

Additionally, the president called on TNI and Polri officers to safeguard public order in the lead-up to the simultaneous regional elections (Pilkada) in November.

“I have stressed the importance of maintaining political and social stability to ensure that everything proceeds smoothly and safely. The main focus lies on these two critical events,” Jokowi told reporters after addressing the high-ranking military and police officers.

The president also highlighted the crucial role of the security apparatuses in supporting a smooth power transfer to the incoming administration led by Prabowo and Gibran.

He asked TNI and Polri to be proactive in preventing and addressing potential disruptions that could threaten the transition process.

“The government I lead will be succeeded by the new administration of General Prabowo Subianto. Please ensure that the transition proceeds without any issues. Do not allow any disturbances that could interfere with this process,” Jokowi stressed.

High-ranking TNI and Polri officers present at the briefing included TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto, Army Chief of Staff General Maruli Simanjuntak, and National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo.

Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto and Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Hadi Tjahjanto were also in attendance.
