A subsidiary of State-owned energy company PERTAMINA, PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, has set up strategic partnership with PT Vale Indonesia for the provision of environmentally friendly fuel as part of their strategic steps in supporting decarbonization efforts of the government to achieve net zero emissions by 2060.

The cooperation was outlined through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between President Director of PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, Riva Siahaan, and President Director of PT Vale Indonesia, Febriany Eddy, in Bali on Monday, September 9, 2024.

This cooperation marks a joint commitment to reduce carbon emissions through the use of clean energy, through the use of Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO), an environmentally friendly fuel that has the potential to reduce carbon emissions by 85 percent and greenhouse gas emissions by 90 percent.

Riva Siahaan said that through Pertamina One Solution services, Pertamina Patra Niaga provides integrated energy solutions designed to meet the needs of various business partners, including PT Vale Indonesia.

“This solution includes the provision of cleaner fuel as well as efficient logistics and infrastructure support, ensuring business operations run optimally and sustainably,” he said as quoted in a statement on Wednesday, September 11, 2024.

In addition, Riva added that the partnership between Pertamina Patra Niaga and PT Vale Indonesia not only focuses on providing clean energy products, but also on community empowerment programs.

“In addition to decarbonization, this partnership also aims to help strengthen ESG implementation and support PT Vale Indonesia in the scope of compliance with environmental regulations implemented by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, including PROPER rating assessments. This cooperation is in line with PT Vale Indonesia’s efforts to improve environmental sustainability standards in their operations,” he said.

President Director of PT Vale Indonesia, Febriany Eddy, said that this cooperation is in line with the company’s decarbonization roadmap.

“This cooperation is very important for PT Vale Indonesia in achieving and improving sustainability standards and reducing carbon emissions throughout our operations. Products and services from Pertamina Patra Niaga, such as HVO, will greatly assist in our decarbonization journey,” Febriany said.

As part of this partnership, Pertamina Patra Niaga will work with PT Vale Indonesia on community empowerment programs, help create a sustainable positive impact on the surrounding community and ensure the implementation of social and environmental responsibility principles by cooperating with Pertamina Foundation.
