A subsidiary of state owned energy company Pertamina, Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE) and Coal Power Generation Company Bangladesh Limited (CPGCBL) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) of 500 MW grid-connected solar PV project at Moheshkhali area of Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, and other parts of the country.

The MoU, which is subject to the results of a feasibility study, also includes the establishment of supporting facilities and lays the groundwork for additional cooperative ventures based on mutually agreed terms and conditions. The MoU is the follow-up of the G2G MoU signed between Indonesia and Bangladesh in 2017.

The MoU, which marks significant stride towards enhancing sustainable energy solutions and advancing renewable energy infrastructure in Bangladesh, was signed by Abul Kalam Azad, Managing Director of CPGCBL, and Fadli Rahman, Acting Chief Executive Officer of Pertamina NRE, in a ceremony held at the Intercontinental Hotel on July 15, 2024.

“We are very delighted at the signing between CPGCBL and Pertamina NRE. I believe this partnership lays the foundation for a collaboration that will not only enhance our operational capabilities, but also foster growth, innovation, mutual success, as well as will support Bangladesh’s national energy security,” Chief Financial Officer of Pertamina NRE, Nelwin Aldriansyah, said as quoted on Tuesday, July 16, 2024.

“This MoU will significantly help us to achieve the Integrated Energy and Power Master Plan (IEPMP) target on Renewable Energy.” Senior Secretary, Power Division of CPGCBL, Habibur Rahman, said.

Coal Power Generation Company Bangladesh Limited (CPGCBL), an enterprise of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, was established in 2011. As outlined in its Memorandum of Association, the company is mandated to undertake schemes for constructing power plants under the Private Sector Power Generation Policy of Bangladesh, Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Policy, or any other policy framework of the government.

Vice President for Corporate Communication of PT Pertamina, Fadjar Djoko Santoso, said the partnership is one of Pertamina’s initiatives to expand its business globally.

“We support this expansion, which in line with Pertamina NRE competency in new and renewable energy. As a subholding, Pertamina NRE shows its commitment to upscale their business independently,” Fadjar said.
