State energy company PT Pertamina, through its subsidiary Pertamina New and Renewable Energy, has explored potential investment and cooperation opportunities during a landmark Indonesia-United States Business Forum held at The Mayflower Hotel in Washington DC, USA, on Monday, August 26, 2024.

The event, held in commemoration of 75 years of Indonesia-U.S. bilateral relations, was attended by Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, U.S. Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade Marisa Lago, and several representatives from both the US and Indonesian governments, as well as business leaders from both countries.

Fadjar Djoko Santoso, Pertamina Vice President for Corporate Communication, said that its participation in the event plays a vital role in opening up opportunities and promoting Pertamina as a world-class company.

“Pertamina used this important moment to communicate the company’s sustainability policies and open up investment and cooperation opportunities with global partners, particularly in the sector of new and renewable energy development,” Fadjar in a statement on Tuesday, August 27, 2024.

He added that Pertamina’s sustainability policies are very open to being implemented through strong cooperation both nationally and globally.

“Indonesia has a significant potential for clean energy resources, which can attract international investors. Pertamina continues to convince the international community to support energy transition programs to accelerate the Net Zero Emission (NZE) target by 2060,” Fadjar said.

John Anis, CEO of Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (PNRE), who was a panelist at the business forum, said that PNRE has a mandate to support the Indonesian government in achieving its emission reduction targets while preparing future business prospects for Pertamina. PNRE also aspires to be a leader in building the NZE ecosystem in Indonesia.

“PNRE is allocating significant capital expenditure (Capex) for the development of new and renewable energy. By 2029, PNRE’s Capex will reach US$6.2 billion (Rp9.6 billion),” John Anis stated.

He added that 63 percent of the Capex is allocated for the development of solar, wind, and geothermal energy. The remaining 18 percent is for developing low-carbon solutions, including decarbonization, 11 percent for biomass and bioethanol, and 6 percent for future business development.

Pertamina, as a leading company in energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

All these efforts align with the implementation of Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) practices across all of Pertamina’s business lines and operations.
