The leadership conflict within the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) has escalated as the Arsjad Rasjid faction accuses Anindya Bakrie of violating a previously agreed resolution.
The agreement, reached in a meeting with Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia at the end of last month, aimed to resolve the leadership dualism by accelerating the 9th Kadin National Conference (Munas).
Dhaniswara K. Harjono, Deputy Chair of Kadin for Legal Affairs and Human Rights, said that the agreement between Arsjad and Anindya was legally binding, as it was a written and notarized document.
He highlighted that Anindya’s announcement of Kadin’s new management structure breached this agreement.
“The announcement made by Anindya was not discussed or agreed upon by our faction. We were not involved in the drafting process for the Kadin leadership structure,” Dhaniswara said in a statement on Tuesday, October 8, 2024.
The Arsjad faction’s proposal was to expedite the 9th Munas to be held after the inauguration of the elected president and vice president of Indonesia. This proposal was made to ensure the organization maintains its integrity, as outlined in Law No. 1/1987 on Kadin.
While preparations for the 9th Munas are underway, Dhaniswara has not provided specific details regarding its schedule. Eka Sastra, Deputy Chair of Kadin for Organizational Affairs, reiterated that any organizational changes must adhere to the Kadin bylaws.
“We urge all parties not to speculate and to rely only on official information from Kadin Indonesia,” Eka said.
The conflict deepened when Anindya Bakrie’s faction announced the 2024-2029 management structure, naming Arsjad Rasjid as Chair of the Advisory Council. Despite this, Anindya declined to explain further about Arsjad’s role, stating that it was outside the context of the current discussions.
Anindya mentioned that the new leadership structure is only 50 percent complete and will be finalized after the inauguration of Prabowo Subianto as the President of Indonesia for the 2024-2029 term.
